Until he made this movie, he was playing insingficant roles. He started this movie three, four years before its release date and had to go through a lot of financial ordeals to release the film. He himself told in an interview that he had to play gambling (pEkATa) to raise some money in order to complete this movie and finally all his painful efforts paid off. Balu`s voice in this song is just awesome.
 101 rAjyamu balamu.. rAjAdhi rAju KV Mahadevan Modukuri Johnsonl_link  Released in 1980 and directed by Bapu. The song was picturized on Saarada (played as a vadina to the hero). Vijay Chandar is the hero and Nuthan Prasad played the role of Sataan. With this movie`s commercial fiasco, Vijay Chandar remained as one-movie-wonder in the Telugu film industry.

Jaya Chitra does the one-sided love with Kamal Hassan. Under some inevitable circumstances, "roop tEra mastAna" happens between Kamal Hassan and Jaya Chitra and Jaya Chitra gets pregnant. Later she dies, leaving a new born child to Kamal Hassan. Kamal proves his innocence/genuine love to Sri Priya and they unite in the end, leaving Rajani Kanth behind as an unrest soul.
 99 panTa chElO pAlakanki navvindi padahArELLa vayasu Chakravarthi Veturil_link  Released in 1978, produced by Midde Rama Rao (who later made gUnDA with Chiru) and directed by K Raghavendra Rao. The song was picturized on Chandra Mohan, Sridevi and chorus. It is a remake of a Tamil movie, directed by Bharathi Raja..while Kamal Hassan and Rajani Kanth play the male lead roles in the original, Chandra Mohan and Mohan Babu play those roles respectively in Telugu. Chandra Mohan is an innocent oaf and Sridevi dislikes his presence. Sridevi gets infatuated by a handsome veterinary doctor, but the latter wants only carnal pleasures from her (and he shocks Sridevi with his comment that he loves her "padahArELLa vayasu", not herself). She realizes that looks are not important and she slowly gets drawn towards Chandra Mohan. Chandra Mohan kills a lecherous rogue, Mohan Babu (when Mohan Babu tries to rape Sridevi) and goes to jail. Sridevi awaits Chandra Mohan until he comes back from the jail. Sridevi became the most sensational Telugu glamorous heroine, starting with this movie.

The story was given by Tripuraneni Maharadhi and he got into limelight with this movie. This movie was later remade in Kannada as Veera Kesari with Raja Kumar in NTR`s role.
 97 chengAvi rangu cheera.. bangAru bAbu KV Mahadevan Acharya Athreyal_linkV_link Released in 1973 and produced/directed by VB Rajendra Prasad. The song was picturized on ANR and Vanisree. Vanisree, a cine actress runs into ANR, a simple railway guard and falls in love with his genuine love and innocence. Later she has to leave him and goes back to her acting profession. The rest of the story is about how they unite again.

Veturi quoted a joke (on Jaggayya being a hero) that is widely popular in th film industry - second hero gA vEstE main hero ni tinTADu (very much true in the case of ANR movies), kAni solo hero gA vEstE mAtram EkamgA nirmAtanE tinTADu.

The song was picturized on Surapaneni Sridhar and Pasupuleti Sangeetha. This movie is a debut movie for the character actress, Sangeetha. This is a modern adaptation of Ramayanam story.. as all of you know this move, I am not going over the movie details.
 93 nee kOsam jeevitamantA mUDu muLLu Rajan-Nagendra Veturil_link  Released in 1983, produced by Saradhi studios, and directed by Jandhyala. The song was picturized on Chandra Mohan, Radhika and Geetha. Chandra Mohan is a new school teacher and a single dad with an infant. Radhika is an unsophisticated girl in the same village.. she wants to be Chandra Mohan`s wife at any cost and she does become one by an outright lie, much to Chandra Mohan`s chagrin. She goes to an extent of having a tubectomy operation to prove it to Chandra Mohan that she truly loves his kid and doesn`t want to have her own kids. He then realizes how innocent and selfless his wife is. Geetha plays a guest role of Chandra Mohan`s colleague (a lady teacher). Radhika assumes an affair between both of them and in that context this song comes on three of them. It is a remake of a Bhagya Raja Tamil movie, Mudaanai Muducchi. Jandhyala got a credit of directing this movie with no vulgarity in comparison to the original. Bhagya Raja, Urvasi and Deepa acted in the original roles. The original Kannada tune (by the same music directors) is equally popular in Karnataka.

This movie is based on a novel written by Yaddanapudi Sulochana Rani. This song happens to be the first duet sung by V Rama Krishna, a nephew of P Suseela.
 91 komma meeda kOkilamma kuhU annadi.. kOkilamma MS Viswanathan Acharya Athreyal_link  Released in 1983 and directed by K Bala Chandar. I guess it is a remake of a Tamil movie. The song is picturized on Saritha and Rajeev (later played a villain role in Chiru action movie, gUnDA in 1984 and as father for Chiru again in Big Boss in 1994). Saritha, with her all hard-work, helps the hero financially in his singing career, but he prefers to marry some rich girl (Swapna) after he becomes popular, leaving the poor Saritha behind.

 90 vastADu nA rAju allUri seetArAma rAju Adi Narayana Rao C Narayana Reddyl_linkV_link Released in 1974, produced by Krishna and directed by V Rama Chandra Rao/KSR Daasu. The song was beautifully picturized on Vijaya Nirmala and Krishna. When the main director fell sick (and he expired during the film shooting), Krishna ghost-directed a major part of the movie and he pulled in KSR Daasu to handle the war scenes. Undoubtedly, this is the best picture (with the best performance and the best dialogue delivery from Krishna) in Krishna`s 350 plus movies. SVR was supposed to do the "aggi dora" role.. but due to his ill-health, Balayya had to do it. Mohan Babu flashes for a second or two as the bridegroom in Vijya Nirmala`s wedding/death scene. Veturi once quoted that no one else matches the talent of Adi Naranayana Rao in using the shehnai musical instrument in the film songs and this song seems to be a classical example for his talent. Krishna did leave such a long-lasting impression on the audiences with this movie that sixteen movies followed by this movie were fiascos and hence this movie`s success costed his career to an extent (what an irony!).
 89 kArunna mainaru Minor bAbu T Chalapathi Rao Acharya Athreyal_linkV_link Released in 1973 and directed by Tatineni Prakasa Rao. The song was picturized on Vanisree and Sobhan Babu. An irresponsible rich youth (Sobhan Babu) wants to prove to his parents and others that he can lead a simple life with self-esteem and hard-work by walking out of his rich home. Sobhan Babu acted in another movie, Jackie (1985) that was loosely based again on Minor bAbu movie.

As per Agent 116 (from the discussion board), this movie seems to be a routine family story (Krishna being irresponsible (selling black-tickets at the theatres) in the beginning, but later becoming a hardworking and responsible person by taking care of his family). Gummadi and Anjali are Jaya Prada`s parents and Krishna is Jaya Prada`s mEna mAma (Anjali`s kid brother). Interesting thing is that aDavi rAmuDu movie`s 100-day function is shown (with a glimpse of NTR, ANR, Vanisree, Dileep Kumar etc) in the beginning of the movie.
 87 O priyA.. chanDee priyA chanDee priya Adi Narayana Rao-Sathyam C Narayana Reddy V_link Released in 1980, produced by the music director, P Adi Narayana Rao (Anjali pictures), and directed by V Madhusudana Rao. The song was picturized on Chiru, Jaya Prada and Suvarna. Chiru plays a shorter role as a step-brother of Sobhan Babu. Jaya Prada plays double roles in this movie. Chiru falls in love with her childhoold friend, Jaya Prada, who is rich and arrogant and always looks down upon Chiru due to his lower middle class status. Sobhan Babu returns to his family (step-mother and step-siblings) from Bombay to save them from the disgrace meted out to them by Jaya Prada. Sobhan Babu has a painful past - he loves a non-Telugu girl (played again by Jaya Prada) while working for a rich, old Marwaari business magnate in Bombay. He is not aware of her true character and his heart is broken, when he comes to know that she marries his boss just to become rich. Suspecious of her evil intentions, the old man transfers all his properties to Sobhan Babu, whom he treats like his own son. Unaware of this, she poisons and kills the old man hoping that she would inherit all his properties, but she too dies in a fatal car accident. Albeit Sobhan Babu becomes rich, he is surrounded by a rumor that he has killed his boss and his ex-lover to become rich. After returning home, Sobhan Babu is determined to unite his younger brother with the arrogant Jaya Prada. Suvarna loves Chiru and she goes to an extent of committing suicide to prove her genuine love to him. He realizes her true love and agrees to marry her. Sobhan Babu and Jaya Prada, though initially don`t like each other gradually get drawn to each other. Now she comes to know about his Bombaby rumor and starts hating Sobhan Babu. Gradually, Sobhan explains her the actual facts to convince that he is innocent and in the end, they marry each other. Veturi once quoted that Adi Narayana Rao did this song, while Sathyam (who used to be an assistant to Adi Narayana Rao and TV Raju until he became a full-fledged music director in the late 60`s) did the rest in the movie.

I read somewhere that this movie ran for more than a year in Bangalore. The hero, Hari Prasad (who passed away a couple of months ago) once quoted that Dasari had given him a good break with this movie, but Dasari was too busy (at that time) to establish him as a hero. A Hindi movie, "mast" (released in 1999), directed by Ram Gopal Varma has striking similarities with this movie.
 85 paTTa pagalu puTTindi sujAta Ramesh Naidu N/Al_link  Released in 1980 and directed by Dasari Narayana Rao. The song was picturized on Murali Mohan, Mohan Babu and Sujatha. Sujatha plays two roles (sisters) in this movie. Murali Mohan and Sujatha are a happy couple. Mohan Babu and another Sujatha are lovers. Due to some health problems of her elder sister, the younger one has to pretend as the former (Murali Mohan`s wife) for a short period of time and then follows a routine family drama stuff such as Mohan Babu misunderstands his lover, Murali Mohan finds out that she is not his wife etc.. alas! finally every one is happy (as far as I remember).

The song was picturized on Phataaphat Jaya Lakshmi (who later committed suicide) and chorus during her college days. Prabha and Jaya Lakshmi are middle-class sisters. While Prabha is very practical, Jaya Lakshmi day-dreams about leading a rich and lavish life. Both marry Murali Mohan and Chandra Mohan respectively. While Murali Mohan becomes rich by starting from the scratch with his diligence and Prabha`s moral support, Chandra Mohan runs in to debts (and loses his job) with the crazy wishes of his false-prestigious wife. In the end, Jaya Lakshmi realizes her stupidity and chages her attitude. So, the movie title is meant for Jaya Lakshmi`s overambitious nature.
 83 muddukE muddochhE mudda mandAram Ramesh Naidu Veturi   Released in 1981 and it is the directional debut for Jandhyala. The song was picturized on Pradeep Kondiparthi and Purnima (who were also the first-timers). A love story with the concepts of rich/poor conflicts and hero/heroine elopement, the film was a harbinger for teenage-love-story based Telugu movies. Pradeep`s real maternal grand-father, Vinnakota Ramanna panthulu plays the Poornima`s grand-father role. Sutti Velu (Kurumuddali Lakshsmi Narasimha Rao) also debuts with this movie as a hotel owner.

The song was picturized by Krishna, and Jaya Prada. Krishna acts as Agent 116 and Padmanadham as his side-kick. Rajanala is the villain. This is one of the best action movies from Krishna during the late 70`s with a plenty of entertainment and awesome songs.
 81 chiTapaTa chinukula mELam muddula koDuku KV Mahadevan Veturil_link  Released in 1979 and produced/directed by VB Rajendra Prasad. The song was picturized on ANR and Sridevi. A rich man (Gummandi)`s son, ANR falls in love with a poor girl, Sridevi. When ANR is determined to marry her against to his dad`s wishes, Gummadi sends goons to finish her off and they set her home on fire. She dies a tragic death after delivering a baby boy. After knowing this, ANR becomes a big alcoholic ignoring his son`s well-being. Then Jaya Sudha (an younger sister of Sreedevi) enters his life as his son`s care-taker, makes him realize his mistakes, straithens him up as a responsible dad and marry him in the end. I am amused with a scene (in this movie), where ANR is shown as a super bike racer.

Her father, Gummadi doesn`t believe in love marriages and wants to forcibly get her married to his mEnalluDu (Rajendra Prasad). An old man, Sathyanarayana help both the lovers. In the climax, Vijaya Santhi tries to commit suicide and then Chandra Mohan`s true love changes Gummadi`s hardened heart and Gummadi eventually approves their marriage. Rajendra Prasad plays a guest role of a promiscuous youth. This movie was later remade in Hindi by Bapu as "Mohabbat".
 79 priyatamA ..nee UpirE Aku prANam agni samAdhi Sathyam Acharya Athreya   Released in 1983 and directed by KSR Daasu. The song was picturized on Naresh and Poornima. Naresh and Poornima are lovers and Jeeva keeps his lusty eye on Poornima. Sathyanarayana is Naresh`s dad and is a super cop (SP or so). When Naresh and Poornima get married and go on their honeymoon, Jeeva and his gang follow them. When Jeeva tries to rape Poornima, Naresh fights back but Jeeva kills the couple. When Sathyanarayana comes to know about the truth, he starts chasing the whole villain gang and kills all of them (one by one). In the climax, he kills Jeeva in front his his father, Rao Gopala Rao and surrenders to the police. By 1983 Sathyam was alredy slipping into oblivion, but even in the amidst of mass mania of Chakravarthi music, Sathyam tried to give the melodies (one example is this song) as far as possible, though he worked for a lot of B and C grade movies during that time. Veturi once quoted that Sathyam never believed in the "koTTuDu pATalu".

 77 challani chirugAli mA daivam KV Mahadevan C Narayana Reddy   Released in 1976 and directed by SS Balan.The song was picturized on NTR and Jaya Chitra. NTR and Jaya Chitra appear in the attire of a king and a queen in this dream sequence song. The movie is a remake of V Shantharam`s Hindi classic movie, "Do Ankhen aur Barah Haath". NTR plays as a jail warden, who is also a gAndhEya vAdi. He tries to reform a bunch of hopeless renegades (khaideelu) by taking them to a remote place and finally he changes them as hard-working and responsible people.

This song comes in the context of Vanisree`s seduction on her husband. Finally Sobhan identifies all villains and kills them.

The movie seems to be a remake of a Tamil movie with a Bharathi Raja or Bhagya Raja kind of story (when I recall it now.. I watched it almost 25 years ago during my school days). Chandra Mohan is one and only son of a village surpanch, Gummadi. In the childhood because of an accident, he becomes dumb (mUga vADu). Sujatha comes to thier village as a teacher. He gets attracted by her and starts loving her. But Sujatha seems to have only affection on him for his innocence. Gummadi gets impressed with Sujatha and wants to take her as his daughter-in-law. But Gummadi gets hurts when people blame him indirectly for getting a nice girl married to a dumb person and so he decides to call off the marriage without the knowledge of Chandra Mohan. In the mean time, some goondas attack Chandra Mohan and hit him on his head and he then starts talking. When he happily comes home to tell Sujatha and all others that he is no more dumb, he gets shocked to see that his father is getting Sujatha married to some one else. So, Chandra Mohan feels miserable and decides to remain dumb all his life and doesn`t reveal the fact that he is not dumb any more. A heart-touching (probably sounds stupid in the present times) ending indeed! The original Kannada tune was a rage in Kannada for quite a while.
 73 chelimi lO valapu rAgam.. mouna geetam Ilaya Raja Acharya Athreya   Released in 1981 and directed by J Mahendran (not Balu Mahendra). The song was picturized on Mohan and Suhasini. It is a dubbed version of the Tamil original "Nenjathai Killathey" with Mohan, Pratap Pothan, Suhasini, and Sarath Babu. This is a debut movie for Suhasini in Tamil, but it was not a pre-planned though. Padmini Kolahapuri was supposed to be the original heroine and Suhasini was working as an assistant Camera-woman for the movie. But in the last minute, Padmini didn`t show up for the film shooting and hence the director had to take Suhasini as the heroine. Mani Rathnam`s mouna rAgam (1986) was close to this movie story... as per J Maruthi Kumar from the Discussion Board.

Suvarna and Indrani pair up with them respectively. Sridhar is an innocent villager waiting for his educated younger brother, Chiru to return to the village. Nagabhooshanam is a cruel landlord and keeps on usurping the weak people`s properties. If people defy his tyrannous deeds, he kills them and covers up the murders as the "angered grAma dEvata" has killed them. In the climax, Chiru exposes him and Nagabhooshanam dies in the hands of people (as far as I recall). GK Venkatesh recycled the tune from Kannada and the Kannada version was sung by SP Balu and PB Srinivas in a Raj Kumar starrer, Raja nanna Raja (http://www.cheatsvideogames.com/video_8PozOGG3x6s.html). I like the Kannada version better (in particular, Balu`s portion in the song). I guess this is GK Venkatesh`s last Telugu movie.
 71 pilichina muraLiki Ananda bhairavi Ramesh Naidu Veturil_link  Released in 1984 and directed by Jandhyala Veera Venkata Durga Siva Subrahmanya Sastry. The song was picturized on Rajesh and Malavika Sarkar (a Bengali actress). Girsih Karnad`s family practices Kuchipudi for generations, but his son (Rajesh) refuses to be a Kuchipudi dancer, much against to his father`s wish. Then Girish grooms up a "dommari pilla", Malavika and coaches her as a nice Kuchipudi dancer. Rajesh falls in love with Malavika, but he doesn`t want her to continue as a dancer after their marriage. Having learnt this, his father gets a deep shock and passes away eventually. After realizing how dedicated (to Kuchipudi) his dad was, Rajesh names his son with his father`s name and trains him as a Kuchipudi dancer and continues his family tradition. Some specialities of this movie: Girish Karnad and Malavika (already being a good Kathak dancer) learnt Kuchipudi dance for this movie; This song was picturized at a temple with 600 steps (meTlu) in Korukonda village (EG dist) with hundreds of "nUne deepAlu" under challenging weather (wind-blows) conditions.

Both ANR`s hail from the same village, but work in army as an officer and as a sipAyi. sipAyi Chinnayya sings this song while coming home on vacation from the army. Due to some unavoidable circumstances, sipAyi has to pretend as the officer at the latter`s home, as the officer is assumed to be missing (or dead). Finally the officer shows up and the story ends up with a happy note.

The song was picturized on Krishna and he renders a splendid performance in this movie. This movie gave Krishna a new lease of career after a string of sixteen flops (followed by another stellar movie, Alluri Seetharama Raju in 1974). Interestingly by the time this film shooting was over, he had only a couple of movies on his hand, which was unusual for a star like Krishna who used to act in more than 10 movies per year during those days. Following this movie he continued his saga of acting in more number of movies until the late 80`s.

It is a dubbed version of the Tamil original "Nenjathai Killathey" with Mohan, Pratap Pothan, Suhasini, and Sarath Babu. This is a debut movie for Suhasini in Tamil, but it was not a pre-planned though. Padmini Kolahapuri was supposed to be the original heroine and Suhasini was working as an assistant Camera-woman for the movie. But in the last minute, Padmini didn`t show up for the film shooting and hence the director had to take Suhasini as the heroine. The song was picturized by Krishna, Jaya Prada and Chorus. Krishna acts as Agent 116 and Padmanadham as his side-kick. Rajanala is the villain. When the villain gang chages the hero and the heroine, they disguise in the tribal attire and sing this song (and obviously the villain gang gets fooled and return empty-handed). This is one of the best action movies from Krishna during the late 70`s with a plenty of entertainment and awesome songs.

The song was picturized on NTR and Manjula. NTR appears in twins roles and Manjula and Jaya Prada play the heroine roles. The story is about a conflict between the twins on the paths they choose (one being a rebel that believes that one has to be tough and exploitive to survive in the current hopeless society and another being a Gandhian, who believes in good values) and finally the wrong-doer goes to jail after he realizes that his brother is right. Manjula plays as a petty-thief that gets reformed by the Gandhian and Jaya Prada as a silent-lover of the rebel NTR. An interesting thing is that Balu and Rama Krishna sang for the rebel and Gandhian roles respectively and probably this is the last social movie that Rama Krishna sang for NTR.
 57 idi mEgha sandESamO.. EDantastula mEDa Chakravarthi Rajasril_link  Released in 1980 and directed by Dasari Narayana Rao. The song was picturized on ANR and Sujatha. ANR plays doubles roles (a hard-working father and a happy-go-lucky son). ANR feels really bad that he can not give a good life to his wife and son because of the proverty they suffer from. He works day and night and becomes very rich, but at the cost of his family time and one time, he even can not be with his dying wife because of his work related appointments. After he sees that his son grows up with no mother guidance and becomes an irresponsible youth, he gradually realizes that money is not every thing in the life and that one has to have a quality amount of family time so that enough attention is paid on the kids to put them in a right direction. After watching this movie, the music director, Chakravarthi (who was the busiest Telugu music director during that period) promised himself that he would thereafter spend a quality amount of time with his family. During that period (the late 70`s and the early 80`s), Dasari was a phenominon in the Telugu film industry and he used to make sure that most of his movies had some thought-provoking message (sandESam) to the audiences without losing the commercial elements in those movies.

Krishna, Rathi, Sudhakar and Geetha play the lead roles in the movie. Gummadi is a gentleman in a faction-ridden village and Krishna & Sudhakar are his sons. Krishna is an educated youth and tries to convince the people in the village that violence is not all good. Gummadi witnesses a rape committed by GiriBabu (his mEnalluDu) on a poor girl, Rajya Lakshmi. When he gets ready to tell the truth in the court, he gets murdered by the villains (Sathyanarayana and Giri Babu). In a retaliation act on the villains, Sudhakar loses his hand. Now Krishna sets out to take revenge on the villains and finally brings a positive change in all of them. This song comes in a context where Krishna, in a disuguse, tries to fool the villains and gets their secrets.
 55 rAgamO.. anurAgamO.. nAlugu stambAlATa Rajan-Nagendra Veturil_link  Released in 1982, produced by Navatha Krishnam Raju, and directed by Jandhyala Veera Venkata Durga Siva Subrahmanya Sastry. The song was picturized on the lead pair, Naresh and Poornima. Pradeep and Tulasi play the supporting roles. It is a heart-wrenching love story with Pradeep and Poornima at the sacrificial ends. Naresh does well in a role where he gets remorseful for his inability to marry a girl that he loves most and made pregant and as as a husband, who can not love his wife because of their forceful marriage. Pradeep, being a true icon of friendship, saves the pregnant Poornima by marrying her. In the climax, Poornima dies in the hands of Naresh by giving their kid to him. One interesting thing is that EEV Sathyanarayana (who used to be an assistant director for Jandhyala movies in the beginning) played as "vidhi", the masked man during the titles of the movie. Jandhyala, being a melody lover, always preferred to choose either Ramesh Naidu or Rajan-Nagendra as much as possible for most of his films.

The movie is a remake of Rajesh Khanna starrer, Daag (with ANR, Vanisree and Jaya Sudha in the original roles of Rajesh Khanna, Sharmila Tagore and Rakhee respectively). Context-wise, this song is like "Mere dil mein Aaj kya hai", but Chakravarthi, who by default doesn`t like copying the tunes as much as possible, comes up with an awesome tune that is almost as good as the original one. ANR and Vanisree are a happy couple. One day when ANR sets out on an office visit, the lecherous neighbor (Mohan Babu) tries to rape Vanisree. ANR forgets some thing at home and comes back from the air port only to see that his wife is being molested. ANR, in a fit of rage, kills Mohan Babu and when the police is after him, he has to abscond. He goes to another place and changes his identity and then saves a rich man (with a beautiful young daughter, Jaya Sudha) there.. hence gets dearer to them and gets engaged to Jaya Sudha. Vanisree runs into Jaya Sudha in the search of her husband and Jaya Sudha brings her home. Then one night when they are alone, ANR explains her the whole situation and convinces her that she is still his better-half and the engagement is forced on him. In this context, this songs comes where ANR feels emotional after meeting his wife after a while. Finally, Jaya Sudha understands the situation and the couple gets united again.

Later ANR traces down the culprit, Prabhakara Reddy who has been chased by the police for his other wrong deeds, but ANR later comes to know that he is none other than his elder brother, who ran away from him during his childhood. In the climax, ANR forgives his brother and marries the younger Vanisree. I still wonder how the title gets justified with this story line with ANR in a serious and responsible role.

The movie seems to be an experimental one (for which Dasari used to be popular in the late 70`a and the early 80`s). The story line goes like this- Murali Mohan is a hero and Dasari is a director for a movie that is scheduled to be shot in kOnaseema. Murali Mohan has a sad past that his ex-lover cum his regular heroine, Jaya Sudha unfortunately dies before they get married. A village belle, Ambika gets fascinated by Murali Mohan while the film shooting goes on. Then, Ambika gets pregnant and she has her own assumption that Murali Mohan is the father of her to-be-born child, but the latter denies it. The whole village believes Ambika`s words and don`t let the film unit leave the village. Later, every one comes to know that some one in the village himself is the real culprit, but the blame has gone on to the film hero. The movie ends with a heavy speech to the villagers from the film director, Dasari that the filmi people are also human beings like them. A Lot of movie actors appear as guests in the movie and Jaya Sudha appears in a short role as a filmi heroine. This is the last movie for KV Chalam (in fact, he died in the middle of this movie shooting and Dasari paid his condolenses by showing his death clippings in the movie).

Sathyanarayana get greedy and becomes the king (but he takes the form of the king) and his daughter, Jaya Prada is an innocent princess. One day Jaya Prada goes to jungle and finds NTR and brings him to palace and turns into a civilized person. Now NTR wants to know who are his parents and finally finds them and get them out of thier troubles. On his odyssey to find his parents, two gandharva kanyalu (Halam and Jaya Malini) run into him and this song comes in that back-drop. Probably this is the last folklore movie (jAnapadam) movie that NTR acted.

Though Sathayanayarayana`s role and Sobhan`s jail and revenge-seeking scenes are taken from the original movie, the double roles of Sridevi are introduced in the Telugu version. Sridevi appears as twins (born in a vESya family), one being a homely girl loved by Sobhan Babu and another, being in a vamp as Chiru`s lover. Chiru eyes on Sobhan`s lover and rapes her and she then commits suicide. Now Sobhan vows to kill Sobhan and in the process he kills Chiru`s sidekicks and ends up in the jail. Sathyanarayana is an innocent yet kind-hearted jailer and he helps Sobhan to escape from the jail on a condition that the latter would come back to the jail. In the climax, Sobhan Babu kills Chiru, but Sathyanaraya loses his eye-sight in a fire accident. Sobhan gives his eyes to Sathyanarayana and then gets hanged to death with a quenched revenge. Though Chiru plays as a villain, he has two steamy mass songs with Sridevi. Sobhan, as usual, excels in the revenge seeking criminal role.

Sobhan Babu warned the producer that this kind of movie would not click and the movie turned out to be a fiasco. Later he wanted to make "yama gOla" movie with Sobhan Babu, but the latter suggested him that NTR would be the ideal choice for the movie.

The song was picturized on Sobhan Babu and Jaya Sudha. Sobhan Babu perfectly fits the role of sOggADu Sobhanadri. Jaya Chitra and Jaya Sudha play the heroine roles and Sathyanarayana as a villain. Sobhan Babu and his educated maradalu, Jaya Sudha are in love with each other, but his mEna mAma, Allu insults him that Sobhan doesn`t deserve his daughter and then Sobhan Babu challenges that he would marry a better girl. Then he marries Jaya Chitra, a niece of a cruel landlord, Sathyanarayana. Sobhan Babu comes to know that the sadistic Sathyanarayana mercilessly kills his father during his childhood. In the climax, Sobhan Babu punishes Sathyanarayana in the same way his father was tortured to death, but leaves him alive on his mother`s request (I like Anjali Devi`s dialogue "ee durmAguDini champitE, vADi prEtAtma ee pavitra sthalAm chuTTu tirigutundi"). Sobhan Babu said that he had taken an inspiration from the mannerisms of a person at his native place (Chinna Nandigama/Mailavaram) while playing this role and Sobhan Babu felicitated that elder person during the 100th day celebrations of this movie. This movie remains as one of my BEST favorite movies from the 70`s. 1975 was the best year for Sobhan Babu in his entire career, as he had super hits with an excellent combination of family and action entertainers such as bali peeTham, jeevana jyOti, jEbu donga, and ofcourse sOggADu.
 29 voLLantA vayyAramE iddarU iddarE Chakravarthi Arudral_linkV_link Released 1976, produced by S Venakta Rathnam & Chatterji and directed by V Madhusudana Rao. The song was picturized on Sobhan Babu and Manjula. Krishnam Raju and Chandra Kala are another pair in the movie. The movie is a remake of "Do Yaar" with Vinod Khanna and Shatrughan Sinha in the original roles. Sobhan Babu`s father is responsible for Krishnam Raju`s family breakup and as an act of retaliation, Krishnam Raju kidnaps Sobhan`s sister, Chandra Kala and sells her off in a brothel house. Unknowing to each other Sobhan Babu and Krishnam Raju become good friends. Sobhan Babu is in search of the person (that kidnapped his sister) and his sister as well. In the climax, the truth gets revealed and both of them realize that the mistakes are on the both sides and Krishnam Raju goes to the jail. This movie was later remade (going in circles??) in 1988 as "Inteqam" with Anil Kapoor and Sunny Deol in the original roles of Vinod Khanna and Shatrughan Sinha repsectivley.

This movie is a remake of Dharmendra starrer, samAdhi. Sobhan Babu appears in the double roles (father and son) and Jaya Chitra, Deepa and Sathyanarayana play the original roles of Asha Parekh, Jaya Bhaduri and Madan Puri respectivley. In the original movie, Dharmendra plays as a decoit, but here Sobhan Babu plays a hot-blooded, patriotic revolutionary (pre-independece days) and he looks awesome in the lines of Bhagat Singh`s getup. He, in an unfortunate situation, is responsible for the death of a kidnapped kid (of a businessman, Gummadi) and then in penance, he leaves his own kid with Gummadi and then surrenders to the police and goes to jail. Though Sobhan Babu excelled in the emotional father role, the movie was a commercial failure for the director could not successfully get the spirit of the original movie.
 27 ennelantA ErAye.. mahA lakshmi Sathyam C Narayana Reddyl_link  Released in 1980 and the song was picturized on Sobhan Babu and Vanisree. Subhashini plays a supporting role. The story is very similar to ANR starrer, vichitra jeevitam, which, in turn, is a remake of Rajesh Khanna starrer, Daag. A couple of scenes in the movie remind you the Sobhan Babu`s earlier movie, chakra vAkam too. Unable to bear the insults by his vadina (again Raja Sulochana), Sobhan leaves for a town to earn money, but he is assumed to be dead in a cyclone mishap. After reaching the town, he helps out a rich man, Sathyanarayana and his cancer-suffering daughter, Subhashini. In the climax, Subhashini unites both the wife and husband before she dies. I guess this could be Vanisree`s last movie (after her marriage) before she started her second-innings with attaku yamuDu-ammAyiki muguDu in 1989.

Finally Sathyanarayana realizes how painful it is when Sobhan Babu is about to make his daughter a prostitute (in fact, a drama enacted by Sobhan Babu to give Sathyanarayana a taste of helplessness of other women that have been forcibly thrown by him into prositution). The movie was a big hit during that time and Sobhan Babu excels in in the title roles and shows a commendable variation in the two roles.
 25 kailAsa SikharAna koluvaina swAmi mahArAju Chakravarthi Veturil_linkV_link Released in 1985 and directed by Vijaya Bapineedu. The song is picturized on Sobhan Babu and Suhanisini. It is a family sentimental story where Sobhan Babu plays a sacrificial role in a combined family with a selfish sister and irresponsible family members. Again, it is the role only Sobhan Babu can do a complete justice to it.

An interesting thing is that Sobhan Babu preferred the singer Rama Krishna over Bablu a lot in 1973 and 1974 and this is the first movie for Balu to sing for Sobhan Babu after nearly the gap of two years. As you can see from this song, only Balu can match the Ardhrata rasam that exceptionally comes from Sobhan Babu`s voice. The movie is a remake of Shashi Kapoor starrer, Aa galE lag jA. Manjula, Jaggayya and Nagabhushanam play the original roles of Sharmila Tagore, Shatrughan Sinha and Om Prakash. Later this movie was made by VB Rajendra Prasad as Uttaman in Tamil with Sivaji Ganesan in the lead role.

In this triangular love story, Sobhan Babu and Jaya Prada are lovers, but the hero is forced to marry another girl, Jaya Sudha and Jaya Prada loses her eyesight in a mishap. Jaya Prada and Sobhan Babu again run into each other and then this song comes in that context (as per MisterVijay from the Prince DB).Interestingly, Sobhan Babu is the only star that acted in a maximum number of Viswanadh`s movies than any one else. By this movie release, Viswanadh was gradually moving towards the classical movie making (with small range artists such as Chandra Mohan) and probably this is his last movie with the 70`s top stars.

 19 annA vinnA pApamE aparAdhi JV Raghavulu Veturil_link  Released in 1984, produced by S Gopal Reddy, and directed by Kodi Rama Krishna. The song was picturized on Suman and Suhasini. The movie is a murder-mystery. Suman and Suhasini are a happy couple. Giri Babu tries to molest Suhasini and she in turn kills him in self-defense. Suman comes to know that Suhasini has committed a murder, but pretends that he is not aware of it. Now Suman starts getting the black-mailing calls from some one that has witnessed the murder. Finally it turns out that the actual killer cum the black-mailer is none other than Giri Babu`s wife (she can not tolerate her husband`s lecherous acts and kills him, when he is still left alive after Suhasini`s knife stab). If I remember correctly, Giri Babu`s wife role is donned by the lady, who acts as Chiru`s widow cousin in SubhalEkha.

Dasari seems to be responsible for the producers rise (starting with this with movie, along with some other memorable hits like Rangoon Rowdy and bobbili puli) as well as thier downfall (with lankESwaruDu in 1989).

When he goes for an employment in a city, he falls in love with Vijaya Santhi and secretly marries her. Suhasini comes to the city in search of her husband and joins as a maid in their house. Finally Vijaya Santhi comes to know about the truth and sacrifices her love for Suhasini.

This movie seems to be a remake of a Hindi movie, Do Bhai starring Ashok Kumar and Jeetendra as brothers-- as per Hanuman from the Discussion Board.

Balayya once quoted that Ghantasala was supposed to sing this song.. but due his ill-health, Ghantasala could not go the recording and hence the opportunity went to the then-upcoming singer, Bablu.

 1 keeravANi.. chilaka lA.. anvEshaNa Ilaya Raja Veturil_linkV_link Released in 1985 and directed Vamsee. The song was picturized on Karthik and Bhanu Priya. I guess the AlApana at the beginning of the sung was sung by Ilaya Raja (correct me if I am wrong). As every one of you knows that the movie is a suspense thriller, I am not going over the movie details.
